Imagem2

When we think of Sintra, we remember automatically the famous and fantastic Pena Palace, however, we can find in this village many other places of unique beauty and unforgettable atmosphere. The Chalet of Countess d’Edla is a wonderful example of this, considered by many as the greatest and most iconic romantic park ever designed in Portugal.
This building was created between 1864 and 1869 by King Fernando II and Elise Hensler, Countess d’Edla and his future second wife, as their refuge and recreational space. The Chalet and its garden are located in the western part of the Pena park, characterized by its privacy and romantic atmosphere and architecture of the Alpine Chalets.

Its interior and exterior decor is eclectic and we can highlight the paintings of the murals, plasters, tiles and exhaustive use of cork as an ornamental element. The garden surrounding the Chalet has vegetation from the four corners of the world, forming an exotic landscape. In the garden we also can visit a group of monumental granite stones, which provide views of losing your breath to the valley, the sea, the Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle and the High Cross, accentuating the romance, of the construction and the landscape.

The Chalet and the garden of the Countess d’Edla were classified as a Public Interest in 1993, integrating the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995.
