Due to its mystical power and atmosphere, Portugal’s religious capital attracts millions of pilgrims every year. It can hold about 300 thousand faithful followers at the same time and is twice the size of Saint Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
The Shrine of our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima is a place of pilgrimage, which celebrates the apparitions of Our Lady of Fátima to the three little shepherds: Lúcia de Jesus, Francisco, and Jacinta Marto. You can visit the Chapel of Apparitions and the Church of ‘Santíssima Trindade’ at the Shrine.
About 2 kilometers from Fatima, in a small village called ‘Aljustrel’, you can visit the House of the Family of Marto and the House of Lucia.
This architectural ensemble is the result of the fulfillment of a promise made by King João I of Portugal in gratitude for the victory in Aljubarrota, which secured the throne and guaranteed the independence of Portugal. It is one of the most beautiful works of Gothic and Manueline architecture. Nowadays, Batalha Monastery is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located on the coast of central Portugal, a land of legends and traditions, sea and fishing, and simple and friendly people, Nazaré still has the authenticity that inspired writers and dazzled artists. Portugal’s most famous fishing village, Nazaré also has beaches with great spots for surf, bodyboard, Tow-In, and SUP lovers. In 2011 Garrett McNamara broke the world record for the largest surfed wave (30 meters) at ‘Canhão da Nazaré’.
It is a beautiful medieval town, famous for its landscape and history and the typical liquor of ‘Ginja’. Here you can stroll through the narrow streets, visit the castle, taste Ginja liquor, and artistic chocolates, and enjoy the flowered balconies, the sidewalks covered in Portuguese pavement, and the architecture of the houses. Óbidos is the ideal destination for a romantic walk with a rich historical tradition.
World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Monastery of Alcobaça is known for its impressive gothic architecture and the greatest love story in the history of Portugal – the tragic passion of D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro.
The Exhibition “Fatima Light and Peace” was inaugurated in 2002 and has a unique collection composed of offerings from pilgrims, as well as from the highest dignitaries of the Church and civil society to Our Lady of Fatima.
