Portugal is in the ‘Destination to Watch 2014’ list according to the ABTA Association, the largest association of tourism agencies and operators in the United Kingdom.
The great food, the historic Cities, the vast stretch of coastline, the charm and the stunning landscape are some of the reasons why Portugal is highlighted as the preferred destination for 2014 by the British.
The study of travel trends developed by ABTA – The Travel Association points out that UK tourists ‘always loved Portugal’ and believe that with the support of the new direct flights to Lisbon and Oporto the tourists will choose these two beautiful and historic Cities to a different City Breaks.
Besides Oporto & Lisbon, the Algarve continues to be the main attraction for the British tourists, given to its great weather all year round, with surfers and adventurous tourists looking for great experiences.
The Alentejo is highlighted as a region of ‘exceptional natural beauty’, ideal for ‘the most demanding tourists’.
Others suggestions also include included visits to the City University of Coimbra and the ‘mysterious Templar city’ of Tomar.
The Portuguese’s food is undoubtedly the attraction that receives more compliments, considered ‘one of the best and most esteemed in Europe’, highlighting the ‘marinated meats and fresh grilled fish served with a delicious white wine, followed by custard tarts – ‘Pastéis de Belém’, a nice dessert.’
