3. Mild climate
Portugal is one of the warmest European countries.
Spring and summer months are usually sunny and temperature maximum are very high during July and August, with maximums averaging between 35ºC and 40ºC (86ºF – 95ºF) in the interior of the Country, 30ºC and 35ºC in the north. In coastal regions, near Lisbon the temperatures are moderated because of the influence of the sea.
In summer there are a lot of wonderful Portuguese beaches to explore and there are amazing spots to practice various water & nature sports like surf, bodyboard, hiking or beach soccer.
Portugal offers mild winters, characterized by the presence of the sun, the rain and winds are uncommon. Temperatures rarely fall below 5ºC (41ºF) nearer to the sea, averaging 10ºC (50ºF), but can reach several degrees below 0ºC (32ºF) further inland. In the Oporto and North regions the winters are typically colder, although the temperatures are still mild when compared to the rest of Europe.
The snowfall usually occurs in the North-central interior region of the Country (Guarda, Bragança, Vila Real and Viseu). It occurs frequently in Serra da Estrela, where we find the highest point in mainland Portugal (1,991m). Here you can have fun doing some snow sports.
4. Heterogeneous festivities
In Portugal, there are many interesting and heterogeneous festivities. During the whole year, especially during the summer, you can find various traditional festivals in the Country like São João, in Oporto, or Santo António, in Lisbon, in which people take to the streets and celebrate the night away, with sardines and a lot of Portuguese music.
In summer months, music festivals are very common and the regions chosen for these festivals are frequently places surrounded by beautiful landscapes and pleasant Villages.
5. It’s easy to travel in Portugal
Portuguese it’s the fifth most spoken language in the World; it’s beautiful and smooth. However, if you don’t understand a word, don’t worry! Portuguese people speak very well the English language and they are very warm and friendly so they will help you if you have any question. Sometimes, even if you don’t have any question they will talk with you and share stories of their City, village or place!
